REFLECTION

I loved the fact this film had a colourful, eccentric feel and the director, who i have worked with lots now, always puts a big focus and importance on costumes and aesthetic.

Therefore i knew more than ever that all little details would be in shot and matter on this one.

One reference Jordan gave me was Gucci 2017 Springwear, so from here i looked into magazines and catwalks from then and studied the cuts from these outfits. The clashes and colour pops are fantastic and i knew this would be so important to get right.

Another focus for this film was on texture: I wanted to get contrasting textures to add to this chaotic eccentric feel. The director gave me various images that confirmed this would work, so i got to it and started looking where to buy textured things like lace shirts, silk suits, velvets etc

The 70s eccentric vibe meant charity shopping was less reliable as the theme was very specific. I turned to Ebay which was great to find niche items such as patterned silk jackets with bold colours that i could use for the protagonist.

It was extremely helpful to work with the cast on this film, and made me realise just how important it is to get on with your co workers, as she had an amazing vintage wardrobe that i ended up picking most of her looks from. This was great in keeping with my sustainable aim and the director liked the final looks.

I managed to pick up all the accessories from charity shops so all in all this film was brilliant in terms of sustainability for costumes, as well as being a lot of fun due to the genre and vibe.

There were two downsides that I would have done differently:

1. I had to re tie a bow tie on every take..This i practiced beforehand but i should have done more of this as when on set it was a lot harder under pressure.

2. Planning! I assumed and hoped the shoot would end on time as i booked a train from london to edinburgh straight after. The shoot overran and this meant i had to leave all the costumes with them, which was stressful and created more planning in doing so. Next time i will leave a time window after a shoot in case they over run as the more shoots i do, the more i realise they never end on time.
